Students are able to apply to the Federal Family Education Loan
Program (FFELP) for a loan through many of the nation’s private
banks, credit unions and education financers. Students are not
bound to any particular lender, and although your school might
make specific recommendations with respect to lending
institutions, you're free to get your Federal Family Education
Loan Program (FFELP) student loan from any participating
financial institution. |

Many schools participate in the Federal Direct Loan Program,
where students are able to acquire loans on the same terms as
FFELP loans, but students are awarded the finances they borrow
from the U.S. Department of Education. |
